I am excited to be a part of Doorknock planning committee for The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal on the Central Coast. The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army’s primary fundraising drive and without it, the Salvos would not be able to deliver the vast number of services that help so many people in need on the Central Coast, with $7 million spent locally on social programs.

The Salvation Army’s Oasis Youth Centre Wyong is liberating and empowering young lives in our community, providing inspiration and ongoing support for disadvantaged youth, giving each and every one of them hope when their life seems pretty dull.

In a peaceful sanctuary just out of Dooralong, the Coast hosts the largest drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Australia, bringing hope, healing and wholeness to all those adversely affected by addiction.

The Army also has police, fire and court chaplaincy services for those that need emotional support during challenging times. Family tracing services, community care ministries and welfare services are also provided and continually give life changing assistance to those doing it tough in the community.

We were privileged to have had the opportunity of travelling to Mbane, Swaziland, and visiting my sponsor child Andile. For the past 10 years I have sponsored Andile & his community, so it was extremely rewarding to have been able to visit personally. The work that World Vision have accomplished over the past 10 years since their program commenced in Mbane is extraordinary. They have built critical infrastructure including water tanks, with a network of taps installed throughout the communities, providing clean water for drinking, washing; the new maternity hospital is nearing completion; schools have been built and extensive training for communities is ongoing. The aim of World Vision is to assist in building infrastructure and teach the communities to become self-sufficient… very much a case of giving a hand up, not a hand out. The project in Mbane is a 15 year project, and we really had no idea of the magnitude of the task until we travelled the roads to these most remote areas, and seeing first hand the works in progress. A life changing experience for both Mitch and I.

Zoo And Snooze

My team and I are excited to be fundraising for Coast Shelter again this year, and participating in the 2015 Zoo & Snooze sleep out. Coast shelter provide a desperately needed service for those facing dire hardship and homelessness; they are passionate and committed in the service they provide, but heavily rely on the support of the community to keep this service operating. We feel privileged to be able to assist and look forward to hitting our target of $5,000, and welcome your support!

In August 2014 I employed Alison and her team from McGrath to sell my home at Ourimbah. From the marketing strategy to closing the sale, Alison and her team were a pleasure to deal with.
